Tooth number 5 was quite the tooth!! Last Saturday the 14th, Wallace spiked a fever during his afternoon nap. It was up to 106.4 when we first checked it.
When we checked his temp it read 106.4 and we sprung into action. Dylan got his Tylenol and I checked him again; still WAY high. Dylan got the medicine in the boy and then I got his clothes off of him. Dylan got out an ice pack and held it to his back. He took Wallace into the bathroom and ran cold water over his head.
I called the Dr and they said to bring him to the ER. We took a naked Wallace to the ER. In the waiting room we were able to get his temp down to 101.8 by keeping his head wet and draping a wet washcloth around his neck. I brought him a onesie that is a little big on him, and it stayed pretty damp the whole time.
The Dr we saw told us we did everything right and gave us a good talk about what's coming up for us with teething. Next time use Luke warm water in the tub. No need to come back about a teething related fever unless it can not be brought down, or he has green mucus. If it is an abnormal fever like this was today, of course bring him in.
His tooth cut through his gums before we left the ER.
I converted another mother to cloth diapers in the ER! I referred her Nicki’s diapers. She has a 10 month old girl a few days younger than Wallace. Working on her 7th tooth.
In other news Dylan scored a shelf for free off of craigslist. It is a big tall library style metal shelf. He put it up in our storage area in the shed and got nearly half of our stuff off the ground.
Today we went out to a horse stable out in the hills in Oroville. We picked up two loads of horse manure. I shoveled manure!! I was surprised by how not smelly horse poo is. The best parts of this manure is:
A. You can plant straight into horse manure.
B. It was free
This picture Was taken looking at the back porch.
Today Wallace had his first ever dirty knee.
Wallace has not let up eating every thing he can get his hands on. There is no shortage of leaves and dirt to get tracked in to our house and Wallace jumps at every opportunity to stick things into his mouth. He has taken to rubbing his hands like he is trying to make bubbles in the bathtub, on the floor, in hopes of finding something to put in his mouth.
Wallace does the silliest things now. He likes to stand up on one leg. He holds onto furniture or the wall and then he finds his balance and lifts one foot looking for something to climb. He has successfully climbed up onto things!
Look at this amazing Tulip; it looks like bird feathers to me.
I walk around our property and admire all of the beautiful flowers. Before the mandarins were planted this property was an Iris farm. They are just now coming into bloom and they are really something. There bloom fades very quickly so there is always something different when I walk. These are a few of the most spectacular flowers I have seen so far this season.
Church was great this past Sunday! It reminds me so much of my life in Winters. It feels really comfortable to me. We sing some of the same songs. They believe in the power of touch with prayer. And, I have found a great mothers/play group in the nursery. So far I have gone into the sanctuary for worship and then into the nursery during the sermon. Our family was envied to a meet and greet luncheon after service on Sunday the 9th.
In the nursery they were talking about a mommy and me bible study. I gave an RSVP for Wallace and I and I let them know that I may know some other women that would be interested. I have been praying for a bible study and a mommy and me… How’s that for an answered prayer.
So, we have finally erected a hoop house. It is so nice to go and work in it! On this farm, in our seed start business it is my responsibility to plant and water the seed trays. I label everything and keep meticulous records. This afternoon after watering the seed trays I walked out of the hot house and I felt cold! It was 74 degrees outside and it felt so cold compared to whatever it was in the hot house. I think that we need a thermometer inside. The pepper seeds that we planted in the last round have only just begun to sprout since they have gone into the hot house.
We have a male and female oriels that eat out of the humming bird feeders. I tried to snap a photo of the male tonight.
Today on our property we have a burn pile. Dylan has been doing a lot of work clearing the land for planting. I would like to ask all of you if I may borrow your canning jars. I will return your jars to you with delicious food inside of them.
This morning I made Wallace cantaloupe baby food. He has been on a solid food strike! All he wants is milk. Right now he is chewing on a carrot but spitting out all of the pieces he chews off.
